The traditional Wado-Ryu syllabus includes 10 predefined pieces of pairs work called prearranged (Yakusoku) basic (Kihon) sparring (Kumite). In Stour Karate’s syllabus we refer to these as Kihon Kumite or simply Kihons.

The Kihons are designed to demonstrate Wado-Ryu’s fundamental principals of using an opponent’s power against them through the techniques of body control (Taisabaki), avoiding (Kawashi), escaping (Nogare), sweeping away (Nagashi) and entering (Irimi).
